Directions to Mt. Vernon
The mission of Mt. Vernon is to provide all students with an opportunity to succeed
academically and behaviorally in a supportive, structured environment that emphasizes
positive reinforcement for achievement.
Mt. Vernon is an alternative school with the capacity to serve ninety sixth through eighth
grade mild to moderate at-risk students. Approximately 10 percent of these are identified
as special education students receiving additional consultative and resource services.
The student profile is that of students who are not experiencing success in their base school. Students referred to Mt. Vernon are often failing academically and/or manifesting some mild
to moderate behavior difficulties. Students who benefit from Mt. Vernon have demonstrated
a history of building positive relationships with adults in their base school and demonstrate a desire to improve their circumstances.
Student referral and entry process begins with the SST intervention process implemented
from the base school prior to submitting the Intake Referral to the Mt. Vernon Administrative Team.
The standard course of study is provided at Mt. Vernon with an emphasis on basic academic skills and character development.
The Booster Program is on site at Mt. Vernon.
